The King of Jordan, Abdullah II, declared this Monday (27) that his country is committed to achieving a “permanent ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip, where a truce between Israel and Hamas has been in force for four days, the result of an agreement mediated by Qatar, the USA and Egypt.
The Jordanian monarch, who maintains diplomatic relations with Israel and also supports the Palestinian cause, said that Jordan is doing “everything possible” to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave and “alleviate the effects of the war”.
“Jordan is working with all its energy to establish a permanent ceasefire in Gaza as quickly as possible and accelerate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to mitigate the catastrophic humanitarian effects,” said Abdullah II,
Jordan, however, is not acting as a mediator in the conflict, a role currently played by only Qatar, Egypt and the United States. The four-day truce began on Friday (24) and, according to information, could be extended for another two days, but there is still no confirmation from the Israeli government about an agreement in this regard.
