The embassy wrote on the X platform, “12 hours of calm on the Blue Line gave us all hope and renewed energy in building a better tomorrow in Lebanon.”
Residents told Reuters that the border had been calm since 0700 local time on Friday morning, with the exception of small-scale shooting from Israel.
This comes in light of a temporary truce brokered by Qatar between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
This truce did not officially extend to Lebanon, but Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, told reporters on Thursday, “What happens in Gaza will happen in Lebanon.”
Berri added, “If any violation occurs in Gaza, there will be a violation in Lebanon, given that what is happening in the south is for the sake of Gaza.”
A total of 87 members of the Hezbollah militia have been killed since violence erupted along the border following the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, including seven in Syria.
More than 12 Lebanese civilians, including children and journalists, were also killed as a result of the Israeli bombing of southern Lebanon.
The exchange of fire intensified during the days preceding the truce between Hamas and Israel.
