Previews
This evening the journalist Stefano Nazzi, author of one of the most listened to crime podcasts in Italy, talks about the filicide of Lorys Stival in the second appointment with “Crimes in the Family” (3×90′), the new cycle of documentaries that investigates the drama of murders committed in the home, a plague in Italy where one murder in two is committed within the family or emotional sphere.
At the center of the episode is the reconstruction of a crime which, as Nazzi declares at the beginning, “we consider more inconceivable than others. Unthinkable crimes, which we perceive as unnatural. These are the cases of parents, of mothers who kill their children.” This is what happens on November 29, 2014 in a small Sicilian town in the province of Ragusa, Santa Croce Camerina, where a mother, Veronica Panarello, kills her son, little Lorys Andrea Stival.
In the documentary, Stefano Nazzi meticulously retraces all the phases of the investigation through an objective account strictly based on judicial documents and the exclusive testimonies of family members (including the interview with Veronica’s sister, Antonella Panarello), investigators, lawyers, psychiatrists and teachers. To enrich the story, unpublished video materials, such as the police film with the reconstruction of the death made by Veronica Panarello during the inspections in the place where the body of little Lorys was found and then at home, in her son’s room.
For the first time also exclusively the videos of the psychiatric assessments of the pool that met Panarello and the story of the three experts regarding the profile of the accused and the possible motive. An accurate reconstruction of a tragic story with a mother who, nine years later, still cannot confess the motive for the murder of little Lorys.
