The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) rejected this Tuesday (17) three actions in which former president Jair Bolsonaro was accused of abusing political power during the 2022 electoral campaign.
In the third process, the PT and PSOL coalitions questioned Bolsonaro’s holding of a meeting with governors and country singers, between the 3rd and 6th of October, to announce political support for the dispute in the second round of the election. By majority vote, the court understood that, despite the electoral conduct, the meeting was not sufficient to characterize abuse of political power.

In the session held tonight, the TSE also acquitted Bolsonaro in two more actions that deal with lives carried out during the elections.
The second judged case dealt with a live broadcast held on August 21, 2022, inside the Palácio da Alvorada library, to present electoral proposals and ask for votes from candidates supported by Bolsonaro. The majority of ministers understood that, despite the live broadcast, the former president’s conduct was not serious enough to constitute an abuse of political power, because a TSE injunction prevented new broadcasts in the same way. General Braga Netto, Bolsonaro’s vice-president, was also acquitted.
The Electoral Court also acquitted Bolsonaro when judging the first action against the former president.
During today’s trial, the ministers began to discuss the authorization for candidates for re-election in the 2024 municipal elections to use the structure of official residences for broadcasts, but with rules, such as a neutral live background, without the use of resources and public servants. . However, there was no consensus, and the discussion will be resumed in the session on Thursday (19).
In June, the former president was sentenced by the Electoral Court to ineligibility for eight years for abuse of political power and misuse of the media. Bolsonaro held a meeting with ambassadors in July last year at Palácio da Alvorada, where he attacked the electronic voting system. General Braga Netto was acquitted in the trial for not having participated in the meeting, but he is also the target of the new trial.
Defense
Last week, at the beginning of the trial, lawyer Tarcísio Vieira de Carvalho, Bolsonaro’s representative, questioned the legality of the joint analysis of the three actions and stated that the measure harms the defense.
Regarding the holding of the lives, the lawyer stated that the state structure was not used. According to the defender, the transmissions were made through Bolsonaro’s private networks.
