Romain Grosjean’s debut as a Lamborghini Squadra Corse driver will take place at the 24h of Daytona which will take place at the end of January.
The Swiss will compete for the first time in the cockpit of the Hurácan GT3 EVO2 prepared by Iron Lynx, with the team from Romagna which will be at its first official engagement as the reference team of the Sant’Agata Bolognese company, after the agreement also reached to follow the LMDh which will arrive in 2024.
At the first event of the 2023 IMSA SportsCar Championship season, scheduled for the weekend of January 28-29 and preceded by the ‘Roar Before the 24’ tests the previous weekend, Grosjean will share the cockpit with two other del Toro officials, namely Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti, with whom he will also be in action at the 12h of Sebring in mid-March.

“For me it is incredible to represent Lamborghini Squadra Corse and while waiting for the LMDh to be ready we will do the 24h of Daytona together. It is a good race and then I will also race Sebring and Petit Le Mans to gain experience in Endurance, also with my team mates team spirit and build the relationship with the team,” Grosjean told Motorsport.com exclusively.
“The outings with the Hurácan GT3 EVO2 will help me gain experience and get to know Endurance in the United States from an LMDh perspective because I know Le Mans and Spa from the FIA WEC calendar, while I don’t know Daytona, Sebring and Petit Le Mans from the IMSA calendar”.
“It won’t be easy to adapt to the GT3, a very different car from the single-seaters I’ve raced in the last 12 years between F1 and IndyCar. But there is a steering wheel and 4 wheels, so I just have to understand what the car is like”.
“ABS will be the biggest challenge, because I don’t know it. But I will have very experienced teammates and it will be very interesting for me to learn from them how to best ride it and work together.”

As we said earlier, Daytona will also be the first official outing for the Iron Lynx as Lamborghini’s go-to team; team principal Andrea Piccini is delighted with this commitment and with the signing of Grosjean.
“Romain is a great addition to our team, we shared the track in 2010 and then he made a career between Formula 1 and IndyCar, proving to be a driver of great caliber and always shining when he had the chance”, comments Piccini .
“He’s a real rider with natural talent, he doesn’t compromise and he’s not afraid to make blind attempts on the track in order to gain positions; for me he is one of the greatest talents of the recent F1 era. We expect him to fight hard for every position and point throughout the season.”
“I’m really happy to have the opportunity to work together, both as a team principal and as a driver, and I know he will bring his commitment and experience in Iron Lynx in this new chapter that he faces with Lamborghini. We are excited to start Daytona in 2023 where we will do a lot of testing with the LMDh preparing for the 2024 races”.
