Finland Eero Hirvonen didn’t hide his disappointment after the combined World Cup race in Kuusamo’s Ruka on Saturday.
Hirvonen, who jumped to 18th place in Suurmäki, ended his attempt to reach the top 10 by freezing and in 15th place at the end of ten kilometers of skiing.
“I did a little too much work in the first two rounds, but no one else in that group had the will to go.”
Hirvonen, who pulled the hose, was unable to repeat even his 12th place on Friday.
“In the third round, the gentlemen attacked the terrible Kiri. Bad tactical reading from me”, Hirvonen lamented.
He was satisfied with the fact that he got balanced performances on the hill section on two consecutive days. On Saturday, the surveyors found a trace of the downhill slope at 127 meters.
Friday Hirvonen regarded the five-kilometer race as an opening exercise, but the effects were visible in both good and bad ways.
“It was only the first competition of the season, and it went surprisingly deep”, he admitted that he felt the previous day in his body.
Ilkka Herola already knew the starting points to be difficult, when Ruka suurmäki is still untamed despite ten years of efforts. He rose to 21st.
“Here you can be satisfied even with this kind of result.”
On Sunday, ten people will ski together and then jump.
“An interesting form of competition, but this is the wrong place for such a competition. The track is dangerous and cramped for a group of 50 people.”
Leevi Mutrukkin wants to avoid crashes.
“It would be smarter to ski with an intermediate start. The seats might get a little bumpy when the whole circus rushes onto the track at the same time.”
Mutru succeeded in the hill with his 128-meter, started on the track in 23rd place and was 27th in the end.
“There were a lot of points on offer, but the leg wasn’t enough at the end. The wall came up on the last lap. It’s so cold that lactic acid can make even a madman go crazy.”
Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber beat Germany by 10.4 seconds to Julian Schmid. Norwegian Jens Lurås Oftebro was third.
