San Marino GP
Alonso López reigns in a historic San Marino Grand Prix for Spanish motorcycling, which occupies the first four places
Historic race for Alonso López, who achieved the first win of his career at Misano, reaffirming that his return to the championship to replace Romano Fenati has been a complete success. A unique day for Spanish motorcycling in the category, completely capturing the first four positions. Second place went to Arón Canet, who for the sixth time climbed into the box this year. And the third, for Augusto Fernández, who regained the leadership of the general. Albert Arenas finished fourth.
Pedro Acosta came very close to increasing Spanish dominance at the San Marino Grand Prix. The ‘Shark’ from Mazarrón finished sixth, just one second behind the Japanese Ai Ogura, after signing another great comeback, as he started thirteenth in the race this Sunday. Instead, Fermín Aldeguer left with a bad result. This Saturday, in qualifying, he was once again excited about a seventh place, but in the race he crashed on the seventh lap and had to leave.
For his part, Canet took third place in the championship, snatching it from the Italian Celestino Vietti, who had achieved pole the day before but did not finish the race after crashing and leaving, adding his fifth ‘zero’ of the season.
The great news for the Spanish riders, together with the historic triumph of Alonso López, was for Augusto Fernández who, with his third place in Misano, regained the leadership of the intermediate category.
The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider from Madrid is four points ahead of Japanese Ai Ogura, who finished fifth. All this in a round day for Spanish motorcycling in Moto2, placing for the first time four of its riders in the first four places.
