Mayors and socialist politicians of Guadalentín ask that the voice of patients be heard
The mayors of Lorca and Águilas, Diego José Mateos and María del Carmen Moreno, and representatives of the executives of the PSOE in Totana and Puerto Lumbreras together with members of the regional executive of that party and the national deputy Marisol Sánchez demanded this Friday the Government of Murcia a rescue plan for Health Area III, corresponding to the Guadalentín region.
Mateos denounced that it is at the bottom of the regional health map in terms of human and material resources and affirmed that the “unfortunate situation of deterioration that it presents year after year” requires “a shock plan, an urgent rescue, because health is being played with of people”.
He assured that Area III, which includes more than 200,000 citizens, accumulates 40% of patients on the waiting list for the entire Region of Murcia. He explained that for some specialties such as dermatology, rehabilitation or anesthesia, the wait to be treated is more than 400 days.
Mateos added that the Lorca City Council is willing to collaborate in solving the problem, making available to the Community of Murcia the land necessary for the expansion of the Rafael Méndez hospital or for the construction of a new hospital “wherever necessary.”
According to the mayor, special attention must also be paid to health personnel because Area III is “underfunded” compared to the rest of the Region of Murcia, since there are medical specialties such as dermatology in which only one position is covered “and sometimes none » of the three available.
The mayor of Águilas assured that in her municipality in August, when the population multiplied due to the high number of tourists, only five of the 11 available doctor positions were covered in the Águilas Norte health center and that now the waiting list for be seen by the general practitioner is fifteen days.
The socialist said that “it is not normal that we have been three months without a gynecology consultation,” which has forced pregnant women to have to travel to Lorca to be seen by a specialist. “It is unfortunate, worrying and extremely serious,” she said.
In addition, Mateos pointed out that the affected municipalities will present motions for approval in plenary sessions of the municipalities and that they will encourage the neighborhood movements to convey the voice of the patients of Area III to the Murcian executive.
