“I’m more agitated now than in real races”. So in the past Max Verstappen had confessed to fellow boxer in the Redline team Rudy Van Buren that he was particularly tense at the start of a race with rFactor at Silverstone at the wheel of an LMP2, a race later won by the RedLine crew which included the two Dutch sim-racers . The relationship between Verstappen and Van Buren is very close and it is not surprising that the latter has just been announced by Red Bull as the development driver for 2023.
Van Buren will be working on the simulator and is very good at reproducing Max Verstappen’s driving style. After all, the two have worked as a team in sim-racing for years, managing the set-up and sharing every secret related to the driving style. It is not surprising, therefore, that Van Buren is able to immerse himself perfectly in the role of Max Verstappen when he has to work on a simulator ‘pretending’ to be the reigning class 1997 world champion in F1.
“Whenever Verstappen takes a quick lap, I look at him carefully and with pride,” said Rudy Van Buren joined by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. After the loss of Juri Vips due to the fuss that arose after some racist words spoken by the Estonian during an online gaming session shared with the now former academy partner Liam Lawson, Red Bull had a free place in the development team and simulation and so Verstappen has nominated his ‘double’ in sim-racing who has already worked in recent days in this new role and who knows that there is also his hand in the fact that Red Bull in Belgium had wings especially with Verstappen at the wheel.
In the past Rudy Van Buren has already worked on the simulator for Mahindra and McLaren as well as having long been a protagonist in the real Porsche Supercup. On Twitter, the Dutchman celebrated the announcement and official entry into the Red Bull team. “I will be only a small part of the puzzle, the real magic will be done by all those at work in the garage, but I am obviously happy to be part of this team”, the words of him.
🚨@redbullracing sim test & dev driver 🚀 After doing some days in the past years it’s time to scale it up!
A new and exciting route for me 2023 and onwards. More sim work at one of the coolest workplaces I can possibly think of! Don’t worry, I’ll still be racing myself 😎💪🏻 pic.twitter.com/jc2oOsyOai
