His Excellency Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to His Highness the President of the State, affirmed the correct position of the countries of the region towards the worrying developments of the Ukrainian file, in light of the serious repercussions of the crisis.
He explained that the region’s positions are compatible with the principles of rejecting the use of force and violating the sovereignty of states and calling for a ceasefire and the adoption of a political solution, given the paralysis of the mechanisms of the international system to maintain peace and stability.
His Excellency said in a tweet on his Twitter account: “In light of the dangerous repercussions of the war in Ukraine, the correct position of the countries of the region towards the worrying developments of the file is clear, and with the mechanisms of the international system being paralyzed by maintaining peace and stability, the region’s positions remain consistent with the principles of rejecting the use of force and violating the sovereignty of states. And the call for a cease-fire and the adoption of a political solution.”
The crisis in Ukraine, which began on February 24, is about to enter its sixth month, with no solution in sight.
The crisis has driven up global food prices and raised fears of famine in poor countries, given that Ukraine and Russia are major grain producers.
In addition, Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, stressed that the Ukrainian crisis and high inflation are casting a bleak shadow on the economic prospects in the Eurozone.
Lagarde pointed out that the Ukrainian crisis represents a continuing impediment to growth, and the repercussions of high inflation and increasing confusion are weakening the economy of the “eurozone”, adding that these factors “cast a shadow over the prospects for the second half of 2022.”
She added that inflation in the euro area “remains undesirably high and is expected to remain above our target for a considerable time”.
