All you need to know about the newest activities in Old School RuneScape and why you need to invest some play time in each of them.
OSRS is a highly intricate and complex MMO, and even though most players have barely scratched the surface when it comes to various activities in the game, this game can never get too complex. It’s quite a paradox that such a complex game like Old School RuneScape needs to become more complex to satisfy the needs of its player base. And yet, we often get new and interestingly designed new content that will make the same old-school game we love even more appealing. This year has been excellent regarding new activities and how much OSRS gold we could make with these brand new activities. And it doesn’t stop here, as we’ll soon have raids 3 to spend and earn even more OSRS GP.
Introducing Nex
Early this year, Jagex introduced a new boss within the God Wars dungeon. Her name is Nex, and she’s one of the very few group bosses in OSRS. Her drops are super valuable, so you’ll be able to obtain a lot of OSRS GP from fighting her. Amongst the drops, there are the best in slot melee items, such as the Torva full helm, the Torva platebody, the Torva platelegs, or the Zaryte vambraces. You’ll need to spend some OSRS Gold on some good items and high combat stats to fight Nex. Nex is worth a try, and even if you don’t have a team, you can squad up with other players.
Another reason you should try Nex is its beautifully designed mechanics will challenge your combat skills. Before you can test your skills at Nex, you will need to complete a new miniquest called The Frozen Door, in which you’ll have to fight all the other God Wars bosses. Besides the valuables, you’ll also be able to get a pet from Nex.
Giants’ Foundry
You absolutely need to try the latest OSRS activity called the Giants’ Foundry. It was launched at the beginning of June and is locked behind the Sleeping Giants quest. It revolves around using three different facilities to forge a giant sword. You’ll also need to adjust the temperature of the sword preform by using the lava pool and the waterfall in the foundry. You’ll have to pay extra attention because you should use each of the facilities at a specific temperature for the preform
While you need to use your metal bars to create the sword, you will be rewarded with XP, GP, and points when completing a sword. You can use the Giants’ Foundry reward shop points to buy some fantastic rewards. The reward list includes a brand new Smithing outfit that will make any Smithing activity done at an anvil or within the foundry faster. Even though the Smithing outfit does not provide any direct XP boost, you will be able to earn the smithing XP faster while wearing it, resulting in more XP per hour.
Another interesting OSRS item on the rewards list is the Colossal sword, a weapon with a passive effect that will help you fight bigger enemies such as any race of giants. You can also use a drink that boosts your Smithing level. The reward shop also contains molds. Most importantly, you can obtain a double ammo mold, which will help you smith cannonballs at a double rate. Additionally, you can get molds to use within the Foundry to create even more exciting swords.
Guardians of the Rift
On the opposite side of the spectrum, we have a non-combat minigame designed to make one of the most tedious skills in the game a bit more bearable: Guardians of the Rift. This new Runecraft minigame adds a new layer of interactiveness to the skill many players see as dull. The minigame is preceded by the Temple Of The Eye quest, one of the requirements to play it. The other requirement is having a minimum level 27 Runecraft. To play the minigame, you will need to go to the Temple Of The Eye location and help the guardian of the rift close the rift alongside other players.
You will get runes and points that you can spend to get rewards. And be ready! The rewards are unique, and even though you will still have to go through a Runecraft-specific grind to get most of them, you’ll also be able to obtain RNG-based uniques. Amongst the rewards you can get from this brand new Runecraft minigame there’s the Runecraft outfit, a colossal rune pouch, and a brand new Runecraft pet. Other goodies include talismans, more runes, and recolors for the outfit.
What’s interesting about the outfit is that it doesn’t boost your XP but instead allows you to craft more runes at once. This has enormous implementations because it can seriously increase your OSRS GP per hour for one of the most tedious but most profitable non-combat skills. Guardians of the Rift gives you a new way to grind the Runecraft skill and helps you make more OSRS Gold from it.
