The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has announced the start of implementing Cabinet Resolution No. 33 of 2022 regarding work injuries and occupational diseases, which represents a strong impetus for efforts to enhance occupational health standards in a manner that preserves the safety and rights of all categories of workers at the state level, based on the Ministry’s keenness to raise standards Health and safety and reduce the risks of work injuries to support the efficiency and attractiveness of the labor market.
The new decision specified the schedule of occupational diseases and total and partial disability injuries, which includes 17 types of occupational diseases, and seven types of work injuries that result in permanent total disability, while the decision specified work injuries that result in permanent partial disability at 45 types of injury.
The announcement of the schedule of work injuries and occupational diseases comes within the framework of the Ministry’s development of an integrated work system that covers occupational health and safety requirements and supports the unification and integration of efforts at the national level to develop occupational health and safety policies and reduce work injuries and accidents in coordination with the concerned authorities and local bodies.
The Acting Undersecretary for Human Resources Affairs, Khalil Al-Khoury, affirmed that the ministry continues to develop and improve occupational health and safety policies for all workers in the private sector, especially with developments in work patterns in the rapidly changing business world. In a manner that consolidates and enhances the attractive and incubating environment provided by the state for global talents and competencies and investments.
He pointed out that the ministry continues to anticipate and implement best practices that enhance occupational safety for workers in various sectors, in cooperation and coordination with the concerned authorities in the country to reduce work injuries to the maximum extent.
The resolution specified the procedures and conditions to be followed in the event of work-related injuries or occupational diseases, to ensure the fastest response to accidents and to strengthen preventive measures against work-related diseases.
The Director of the Department of Occupational Health and Safety in the Ministry, Ibrahim Al-Ammari, said that the table clearly identifies occupational diseases and work injuries and enhances awareness among workers and establishments of all diseases and injuries classified by the Ministry to ensure that they are reported and that the recommended guidelines are followed, explaining that the Ministry worked during the month of February to survey opinions about Mechanisms for developing and improving occupational health and safety policies for workers and establishments in the private sector and providing the best services to stakeholders in the public and private sectors.
According to the decision of the Council of Ministers, the employer or his legal representative must inform the medical authority and the competent police station according to the geographical scope, so that the notification is immediately in the event of a work injury as a result of an accident or any injury other than an occupational disease, and the notification is from the date the employer became aware of the existence of a suspected occupational disease.
