An infinite reserve of hatred, resentment and a visceral desire for revenge
Among the various singularities of the Ukrainian war: practically a conflict within reach of social media and – without exaggerating – almost live on TV, one appears so bizarre as to make a question unavoidable: why on the atrocities of this “criminal conflict“(as the Holy Father Francis defined it) is the offended party always called upon to produce evidence to his detriment?
Yet no one, who retains a shred of intellectual honesty, can have reservations as to who is the invader and who is invading him; who bears responsibility for this tragic conflict, namely Moscow and its President Vladimir Putin and who, the Ukrainian people, is the real victim of such brutality.
Having said that, and cleared the field of easy inferences on Russian-speaking sympathies, we cannot hide and not report the many – perhaps too many – anomalies of this dirty story.
Let’s start from the beginning! As the President Pierferdinando Casini clearly and wisely recalled, it is undeniable that “on President Putin, the West (everything) took a big mistake“. Perhaps the same mistake that, always theWestwould have taken on the power of the Russian army believed to be able to conquer Kiev in a few days or, on the other hand, the blunder – always of the West – on the strength of the Ukrainian army (although the USA and the European partners were aware of the training given by NATO to the Ukrainian militias in view of a possible external attack). Blunders upon blunders which – it is allowed to say – appear somewhat suspicious and which seem to belong to the same narrative.
To that narrative that rightly reveals the filthy cruelties of the war but which, on the other hand, appears decidedly little interested for weeks now – and this cannot be considered a detail for authoritative correspondences -, to the absence of news, images and anything else on the known “Azov Battalion”And on the other contingents that have joined the Ukrainian army including the Georgian militias that arose – almost by chance – in the recent news for not exactly orthodox actions.
A war in war which no one is concerned with but which everyone knows exists. This is the reason for the distrust, the suspicion, the doubt, the request for clarity and the need for exculpation.
Ukraine is on its way to becoming the Lebanon 2.0 and in many respects (not least the constant need for exculpation, in fact!) it is already a living and atrocious copy of it (starting with the definition of the invasion which even then was called “operation” and not war): an infinite reserve of hatred , of resentment and a visceral desire for revenge. And of all this risks being an active and bloody part of the narrative.
The dead of this war as with all wars (none excluded), we know them and also the reprehensible crimes that they carry in their womb. Pointing the finger at them because of the division of the camp into saints and demons runs the risk of digging an irremediable furrow between two peoples (as between Israelis and Palestinians) and of feeding new and more tragic blunders.
