Five people were killed and 14 others injured in the collapse of an old four-storey building in the Jordanian capital, Amman, the Jordanian authorities announced Tuesday.
And the official Jordan News Agency (Petra) wrote, “The death toll and injuries that were dealt with by the rescue teams reached five deaths and seven injuries.”
A previous outcome indicated that two people were killed in an inhabited residential building in the Jabal Al-Weibdeh area in the center of the capital, Amman.
“The Civil Defense Directorate, through the relevant rescue teams, supported by various units of the Capital Security Region Command and the Gendarmerie Forces, is still dealing with the incident and work is underway to search” for other missing persons, said Amer Al-Sartawi, a spokesman for the Public Security Directorate.
Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh and the Ministers of Interior, Health and State for Media Affairs visited the scene of the accident to supervise rescue and evacuation operations.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan told the official “Al-Mamlaka” channel, that “one of the reasons for the collapse of the building is that it is old and dilapidated,” noting that “the condition of the neighboring buildings is being evaluated.”
A judicial source, who preferred not to be identified, confirmed that “the Public Prosecution has started an investigation into the collapse of the building.”
