Capital of the world, branch of heaven and world wonder that is my beloved city of Culiacán, recently celebrated 491 years of its foundation. It was on September 29, 1531 that Lázaro de Cebreros and Nuño Beltrán de Guzmán established the name of Villa de San Miguel, in honor of our patron saint, San Miguel Arcángel. According to the latest census of INEGI in 2020 we have 808,416 inhabitants, placing us in 19th place among the most populated cities in our country, in Metropolitan area we are in 17th place with 1,003,530 inhabitants, we are located in a valley in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental, at the confluence of the Tamazula and Humaya rivers, which join to form the Culiacán river. We have more than 500 colonies, subdivisions and 18 receiverships.
Our city is distinguished by various aspects, one of them is our gastronomy and not only I say so, anyone who has had the pleasure of tasting a delicacy here can corroborate it, we have a Guinness record for the largest aguachile in the world of more than 3 tons, we have the most beautiful sunsets on the planet, landscapes, wonderful and iconic places such as La lomita, the Botanical Garden, Orabá Island, Las Riberas Park, the Zoo, Park 87, the Rosales and Obregón Square, the Los Tomateros Baseball Stadium and many more, but the best is my people, enthroned, frank, supportive, thrown forward, and very happy, talented in the artistic, academic, cultural, sports, the culichis have stood out in all aspects and we distinguish ourselves in anywhere in the country and the world where we stop.
Impossible to deny also the negative stigma with which we carry, the narco culture that also prevails here has crossed borders, shameful episodes such as the so-called “Culiacanazo”, that black Thursday of October 17, 2019 is recorded in history, violence in all its expressions is the cancer that lacerates our society. Its origin is multifactorial and what is unfortunate is that governments continue not to apply public policies for comprehensive and inter-institutional prevention. The framework of the celebrations of our city is a replica of the practice of the governments of 4Ta. Pure circus, hot air balloon rides, free fall in parachutes, to mention a few, according to the Governor’s godson who was appointed mayor in Culiacán, declared that “4 million pesos” would be spent.
While the paraphernalia was at its peak, on the very day of the city’s 491st anniversary, early in the morning, Anna, a 56-year-old woman in the Botanical Garden, was shot to death, one more than for the deficiency she has shown the carnal Prosecutor that the Governor also imposed is going to go unpunished, it has been no use that the one who was, the number one defender of women, today is the head of the Secretariat for Women, only became one more accomplice, already It is not enough that he only condemns these acts, today he is the one who must give results or resign from office.
We recommend you read:
The culichis deserve a safe city, with streets in good condition, clean and lit, with schools in decent conditions, parks and green areas in good condition, with employment, development opportunities and absolutely none of that they have been able to offer, those who govern today and have absolute power, show that they lack the capacity to fulfill what they promised so much and are being owed, Culiacán deserves less circus and more results.
