At least 25 deputies and senators managed to raise R$125,000 in a fundraiser to help pay for the demonstration in favor of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, 21. Deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ) was responsible for collecting the amount and he was the first parliamentarian to donate R$5,000.
Unlike the event in São Paulo in February, financed by Silas Malafaia, parliamentarians are now helping to bring the event to fruition.
“I was the first to set an example”, comments Sóstenes. In addition to him, 15 other fellow deputies and nine senators disbursed R$5,000.
One of them is deputy Pastor Marco Feliciano (PL-SP) “I contribute because I believe in peaceful demonstrations and that it is not fair for just one person to bear the costs”, he states.
The report mapped 14 of these congressmen who participated in the fundraising. The name of the senators was confirmed by Sóstenes, who says he made a commitment not to identify all the deputies, as some of them requested confidentiality. Pastor Silas Malafaia, who will also be present, confirmed two other names.
As of this Friday afternoon, the 19th, more than 70 deputies have confirmed that they will go to Bolsonaro's event, nine senators and four governors or vice-governors.
“I believe it will be big”, says José Medeiros (PL-MT). “On Sunday, once again, patriots will be together in a peaceful demonstration in favor of democracy, with God for the country, for family and for freedom, drawing the attention of the world, in a sea of green and yellow”, adds Feliciano.
As Estadão showed, three of the former president's four political sons, senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and Rio councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) will be present. Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL) will also go.
The expectation is that the event will serve as a platform for the governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro (PL) and for the pre-candidate from the capital of Rio de Janeiro, Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ). The demonstration will begin at 10 am, when Bolsonaro supporters will gather at the intersection of Avenida Atlântica and Rua Bolívar, on Copacabana beach.
The report sought out the 14 parliamentarians identified as donors, 11 of which did not respond.
