NHL suspends Sharks striker Kane for falsified vaccination certificates
San Jose The NHL seems to have a corona scandal: The star striker Evander Kane is said to have falsified his vaccination certificate. Now he has been banned for a long time.
Ice hockey professional Evander Kane has been banned from playing 21 games in the NHL North American League. The San Jose Sharks winger violated the league’s prescribed corona protocol.
His club confirmed on Monday (local time): “We have been notified that Evander Kane has been banned for 21 games without pay for failing to comply with security protocols. We are extremely disappointed and will not comment on Evander’s status until the suspension has expired. “
The 30-year-old, who had been investigated for gambling allegations in the past, spoke of a mistake that he sincerely regrets and for which he takes responsibility. “During my suspension, I will continue to attend counseling sessions designed to help me make better decisions in the future,” he said.
Kane was already absent from the Sharks training camp and also missed the season opener against the Winnipeg Jets. He is eligible to play again on November 30 against the New Jersey Devils.
US media had previously reported that 31-year-old Kane had caught a fake vaccination certificate that he had presented to the league and his club. In the USA, simple and handwritten paper cards are issued as proof of vaccination.
There is no compulsory vaccination in the NHL, but vaccinated players are subject to far fewer restrictions. Among other things, they are allowed to enter Canada to play games without quarantine.
