It’s 20N and at Carne Cruda we put the microphone back in the fight for the historical memory of our country and the anti-fascist resistance. And we do it in a very special “Fight Club”, remembering “those from the mountains”, the struggle of THE MAQUIS, those clandestine guerrillas, and we do it with one of the last living maquis in our country: Joan Busquetsalthough his guerrilla companions knew him as “el Senzill.”
Born 96 years ago in Barcelona into a humble family, his father was a member of the CNT and he immediately came into contact with anarchist ideas. At the age of 18 he fled to France, where he joined the CNT and met other anti-Franco Spanish exiles. And in September 1948, he joined Marcelino Massana’s guerrilla group. He was arrested and tortured in Barcelona and served 20 years and 6 days in Franco’s prisons, where he lost dozens of his companions and suffered hunger, torture, punishments, forced labor and a lot of hatred.
He left when he was 41 and went into exile in France until today. And his fight continues: he has asked the Spanish State to recognize him as an anti-Franco guerrilla and demands compensation of one million euros for the consequences left by two decades of confinement in Franco’s prisons. In this program we tell this story and we also talk about the anti-Franco resistance against that regime that on November 20, 1939 launched a sinister funeral procession to exalt Primo de Rivera three years after his execution. A fact that the regime used as a founding myth: the martyr redeemer of the new homeland resurrected from the ashes of war. That is the common thread of “Presents”, the latest novel by Paco Cerdáa chronicle of those days that recovers the story of Primo de Rivera and his mythification, but also that of the invisible: reprisals and reprisals who were sentenced to death, confinement or oblivion at the end of the Civil War.
