The price of espresso rises, but to 1500 euros? No, a couple is responsible for paying for the “bad tasting” drink.
Trent – It is an everyday ritual for many people around the world to start the day with a coffee or espresso. But rarely has this ritual taken on such dimensions as in Trent. In Italy, the motherland of espresso, there have recently been increasing reports of rising espresso prices, which are also affecting holidaymakers. But so far there has only been talk of a magic limit in the two-euro range, not 1,500 euros, as was the case in Trent.
Espresso price no longer affordable? No, history has a completely different background
In Trento, a city on the route between Bolzano and Lake Garda in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, an incident occurred that left coffee lovers shaking their heads. A woman ordered an espresso at a café, but what she felt in her mouth was far from the enjoyment she expected. According to the newspaper L’Adigeshe immediately alerted the barista to the “bad tasting” drink.
The picturesque town of Trento, which is usually a place to linger, became the scene of an escalation that had its origins in an espresso. The woman, dissatisfied with her drink, dragged her partner into the argument. The espresso cup ended up in court after the incident occurred in 2021.
The barista had the lady offered a new cupbut she refused and left the café. A previously unknown man intervened and threatened the barista in an “aggressive manner”. The barista was even “beaten” by this man on the street.
“Smash everything”: Espresso escalation in Trent comes to an expensive end
The dissatisfied customer’s boyfriend threatened the barista, saying: “I’ll come back and smash everything.” Apparently the lady had told her partner that she had been treated badly. When police arrived, they found both of them arguing. The attacker was already known to the police and the public prosecutor demanded a fine of 2,000 euros. Ultimately, however, the verdict was set at 1,500 euros.
This Trent incident may have produced the most expensive espresso in the world. Even two scoops of ice cream at the Trevi Fountain in Rome, which are already considered very expensive, are not that expensive. (ank)
