Governor of Minas Gerais states that he feels “called upon” to participate in the dispute due to dissatisfaction with the Lula government
The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeo Zema (New), said this Monday (5.Feb.2024) that, in 2026, it will be “ready to support the best candidate on the right”. The statement was made in an interview with the radio program “Pânico”. Young pan.
“We are ahead of Minas today to do what is best for the State. If we have good management and are well evaluated, perhaps this path can materialize in the future”replied the governor when asked about his possible candidacy in the race for the Presidency of the Republic.
Zema said the presidential elections are not his concern at the moment. “There are things that belong to God”, he said. However, the governor of Novo stated that he feels “summoned” given his dissatisfaction with the president's government Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
At an event held by Grupo Lide in São Paulo, in September 2023, the governor had discarded his candidacy. At the time, he said he would collaborate, but that he didn't want to be the name.
Zema also commented on the closeness demonstrated between the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) and the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Regarding his State's debt to the Union, estimated at R$160 billion, the governor said that the problem is the fee charged.
“We don’t have a Union bank, we have a federal government, which needs to charge corrections and not interest from the States. This interest is killing”he stated.
In November, Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveirapresented a proposal to President Lula to resolve the debt.
