A top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on Sunday a picture of soldiers waving the country’s flag over a village he said was in a southern region targeted by Kyiv in a new counterattack.
Kirillo Tymoshenko, deputy chief of staff to the president, wrote on Facebook, commenting on a photo of three soldiers standing on rooftops while one of them raised the Ukrainian flag on the roof: “Vyskobyla.
Kherson region. Ukraine. today”.
The capture of the village would constitute a real recapture of the land in a counter-offensive that began last week and is targeting the south of the country.
The new military effort focuses mainly on the Kherson region, which was captured by Russian forces at the beginning of the current conflict.
Kherson is located in the north of Crimea, which was attacked and annexed by Moscow in February and March 2014.
