President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approaches the meeting with Russia with low expectations. Ukraine is calling for an “immediate ceasefire” and the withdrawal of troops from Russia, the presidential office said. Neither Zelenskyy nor Putin attend the meeting. Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov is leading the negotiations for Ukraine. Vladimir Medinski is the head of the Russian delegation. “I don’t believe in the outcome of this meeting,” said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of the talks. Still, he wants to try. Negotiations in the Ukraine conflict: Belarus mediates despite partnership with Russia
There is speculation that Belarus, as a partner country of Russia, is going to war in Ukraine with its own soldiers. According to reports, paratroopers from the country were ordered to fly to Ukraine. Belarusian President Lukashenko had previously assured that he did not want to intervene, as reported by the Ukrainian press agency Unian.
