President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) “On urgent measures to deepen Ukraine’s integration into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.” This is stated on website head of state.
The decree specifies that preparing Ukraine for NATO membership is a “super important state task,” and Kiev intends to take all the necessary measures to become a full-fledged member of the alliance.
The statement also contains a number of instructions to the government of the country. Now Ukrainian ministers and officials need to analyze the state of implementation of annual national programs and take measures to increase their effectiveness. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was instructed to take measures as soon as possible with a view to appointing a military representative of the Ukrainian mission to NATO.
Earlier, Zelensky said that Ukraine is waiting for a new signal about the prospect of NATO membership in 2023. In his opinion, the alliance should give the country a specific list of reforms that it needs to implement in order to join the bloc. He also said that the action plan for Ukraine’s NATO membership would be a real signal to Russia.
