President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday, August 22, about his intention to open offices of the “Crimean Platform” in some countries.
The Crimean Platform will exist not only in Kiev. There will be a central office in Kiev, and in many countries where there are signatories, certain areas related to the de-occupation of Crimea will be opened there, ”the press service of the Ukrainian president’s office quotes Zelensky.
The idea of creating such a platform, as noted by the Ukrainian leader, came to him after negotiations in the Normandy format, where it was proposed not to raise the topic of the peninsula.
The Crimean Platform summit is planned to be held on August 23 in Kiev. Its goal will be to promote the issue of the ownership of the peninsula on the world agenda. Zelensky explained the reluctance of the leaders of a number of Western countries to participate in the forum by their fear of Russia.
On August 21, Ukraine ignored an application for participation in the Crimean Platform forum from the head of the working group on international legal issues at the permanent representation of the Crimea under the President of the Russian Federation, Alexander Molokhov. In his opinion, the Kiev authorities were afraid that the world community would learn about the myth about the “occupation” created by the Ukrainian propaganda.
On the same day, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced that Russia would draw appropriate conclusions about the participants in the Crimean Platform summit organized by Kiev.
Crimea returned to Russia following the 2014 referendum. 96.77% of the region’s residents and 95.6% of the voters of Sevastopol voted for the accession. The procedure was carried out in accordance with international law. Meanwhile, Kiev considers the peninsula to be its temporarily occupied territory. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the issue of the subject’s ownership is closed forever.
