“My speech in the Congress of the United States of America is scheduled for Wednesday – an important event,” he said in his video message published on Telegram.
In addition, the president expressed gratitude to American leader Joe Biden for allocating $13.6 billion for humanitarian, military and economic assistance to Ukraine.
Former agency Reuters reported with reference to a letter to US lawmakers by US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Zelensky’s speech to US congressmen in an online format will begin on Wednesday at 16:00 Moscow time.
According to the publication, the US Congress seeks to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, as well as support in the areas of security and the economy.
On Tuesday, March 15, CNN, citing sources, reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the US Congress were calling for the transfer of heavy Soviet weapons to Kiev.
The corresponding proposal is being studied by the US State Department, the department is trying to determine which countries have Soviet C-300 anti-aircraft missile systems in order to transfer them to Ukraine.
At the same time, on March 12, a member of the US House of Representatives, Darrell Issa (D-California), said on Fox Business that in the current situation, the Ukrainian authorities would “quickly fall apart.” He noted that Washington’s assistance still does not contribute to Ukraine in any way.
In mid-February, due to the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of the civilian population to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree. On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. As the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov clarified, the special operation has two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.
