Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, discussed today, Friday, the grain export agreement that was extended on Thursday.
Zelensky said he discussed cooperation in the fields of security and energy with Erdogan and assured him that Ukraine would remain a guarantor of global food security.
“We applauded, during a phone call with President Erdogan, the extension of the grain deal,” the Ukrainian president wrote on Twitter, following the extension of the agreement, which aims to alleviate global food shortages by helping Ukraine export its agricultural products from Black Sea ports.
“I thanked (Erdogan) for supporting our ‘grains from Ukraine’ initiative and assured (him) that Ukraine will remain a guarantor of food stability. We also discussed cooperation in the fields of security and energy,” he added.
In turn, the Turkish president’s office said that the latter spoke by phone to his Ukrainian counterpart, and they exchanged congratulations on extending the implementation of the grain export agreement, which was mediated by the United Nations.
Erdogan told Zelensky that both the grain export agreement and the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine are positive and that “extending this understanding at the negotiating table” will benefit all parties.
