The authorities affirm that almost sixty bodies have been exhumed from the mass grave that show signs of “a violent death”
Less than a week after seven months since Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the horrors of the armed conflict are being uncovered. The stamps of the blood spilled in Bucha, Irpin, Mariúpol or Borodianka are also repeated in areas that the Armed Forces of kyiv are clearing from Moscow’s control, such as Izium. In recent days, in this town in the Kharkov region, a trail of corpses and torture chambers have been found that show the cruelty of the Kremlin in its neighboring country. Some facts for which the Ukrainian president, Volodímir Zelenski, has branded the authors of «Nazis».
The statements take place while the exhumation work continues in the mass graves found in the recently liberated city of Izium, where “new evidence of torture against the people buried there” has been found, Zelensky said on Sunday. The horror does not stop in this war. “More than ten torture chambers have already been found in the liberated areas of the Kharkov region, in various cities and towns. Torture was a widespread practice in the occupied territory. That’s what the Nazis did. That is what the Russians do », he affirms emphatically.
The politician who has become a symbol of leadership during this conflict indicated that “when the occupiers fled, they also threw their torture devices”, so that in various corners of Izium there is evidence of Russian cruelty during the time he controlled the location. In that sense, Zelensky explained that “even in the Kozachai Lopan regional train station they have found a room for torture and tools for electric torture.”
Yesterday, the international community unanimously condemned the crimes committed in this Kharkov municipality and its leaders demanded the creation of a “special court” to hold Moscow accountable for it. This Sunday, Zelensky warned that the guilty will receive a response of the same magnitude “both on the battlefield and in court.”
take back control
“We will establish all the identities of those who tortured, abused, who brought this atrocity from Russia here, to our Ukrainian land,” he said, while stating that one day Ukraine will once again control the rest of the territories that “are still under occupation,” like “Kherson, Berdyansk, Donetsk, Lugansk, Mariupol and, of course, Crimea… Ukraine will return. Ukraine will win!
Meanwhile, the kyiv authorities affirmed this Sunday that so far about sixty bodies have been exhumed from the mass grave found in Izium. “The bodies of 16 men and 26 women, all civilians, will be handed over for further analysis.” Among them, there are also 17 soldiers. “Most show signs of a violent death.”
The war, which has already claimed the lives of 390 children, continues with various battles on the front lines. To the east of Kharkov, kyiv reported the death of four health workers due to a “massive” Russian artillery attack during the evacuation of civilians from a medical center in Strilhecha. In Donetsk, the pro-Russian authorities denounced a new Ukrainian attack on a prison in Elenovka, without fatalities.
