The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom It was, without a doubt, one of the best titles of 2023. But did you know that this name is actually not what the developers originally thought of?

This anecdote was revealed directly by Eiji Aonumaproducer of the sequel to Breath of the Wild and the Zelda saga. We recommend right away that there will be a spoilers about the game’s plotin case you haven’t played it yet.

From the pages of the book “Master Works” based on Tears of the Kingdom, Aonuma states that the game was originally going to be called “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Dragon”in reference to the bright Ivory Dragonone of the dragons that flies over the kingdom of Hyrule together with the others already known in Breath of the Wild (Firodra, Oldra and Neldra).

In Tears of the Kingdom, after finding all the Dragon’s Tears and unlocking the last one in the Lands of Akkala, it is discovered that The Ivory Dragon is actually Princess Zeldawho has been watching over the kingdom from the skies above all the time. In order to avoid giving such an important preview of the game’s story, Aonuma decided to discard that name in favor of Tears of the Kingdom (Tears of the Kingdom, like the Tears to be found along our wanderings in the world). A subtitle that, among other things, It was suggested by a developer so that a certain bond could be maintained with the dragon of light who, in fact, watches over the kingdom of Hyrule from above.

A curious detail for one of the most important titles of the previous year (here is our review). Who knows how the next chapter will fare, that is The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomexpected for the September 26, 2024 exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
