The little Zariffe Yamel Céspedes, will represent Mexico this morning at the International Mathematics Competition (BMI) from Indonesia.
At just 11 years old, the student of the Bartolomé de Medina School of the community of Otongo, municipality of Guerrero, Hidalgo, They will answer the individual exam at 10:30 am (Mexico time), while at 1:30 pm they will participate in the team competition. All this in a new remote format, in which the skills of the participants will be validated through three video cameras.
It was just last June 3 when Zari received the news that he would be among the eight best at Primary level; Since then he underwent intensive training, however, he has been preparing for this moment for years..
“I was very happy to have achieved the goal that I set for myself for a long time,” she commented after being selected. “There have been hours of training and exams that have been applied to get here.”
Officially, his preparation began in September 2019, when he was in the fourth grade of Primary. He participated first in his school, then in the zone, in the sector and in the region, before competing in the state one where he won the silver medal in February 2020.
There he began his preparation in the Hidalgo preselective to represent the state in the National Mathematics Olympiad for Primary and Secondary Students, where, even in the midst of a pandemic, he won two gold medals.
At school he has received a lot of support from his coaches, the teacher Héctor Hugo Castañeda Ahumada, with whom he takes math classes in Secondary, and his mother, the teacher Alejandra Elizabeth Pelayo Bocanegra.
At the state level, the delegates work with her Andres Rivera Diaz, his wife Lupita and the teacher Rodrigo lozano. They have trained her in number theory, geometry, trigonometry, and combinatorics.
“The medals I have won motivate me to keep going, even if that means sacrificing hours of play, rest and even vacation,” said Zari.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, which has not yet ceased in many countries, the organizers have decided to hold this event virtually to preserve the health of the participants and their families.
Zariffe has received the unconditional support of Autlan, a company linked to the Colegio Bartolomé de Medina, which has proposed to deliver to the selected one all the tools for her to triumph in this world fair.
