The Zanini plant in Épila, specialized in the manufacture of hubcaps and hubcaps for the automotive sector, has celebrated its 25th anniversary with excellent news that underpins its future in Aragon.
The automotive auxiliary, with 236 employees in the community and more than 1,800 around the world, plans to invest around six million euros until 2027 hand in hand with projects related, among others, to the electric vehicle, which will increase its production by 7 million pieces per year, to exceed 33 million, and will contribute a business of almost 6 million euros.
The CEO of Zanini Auto Group, Jordi Torras, accompanied by members of the company’s Management Committee, served as host of the commemorative event, which was attended by the general director of Industrial Promotion and Innovation of the Government of Aragon, Mar Paños, as well as such as the mayor of Épila, Jesús Bazán, and the managing director of the Automotive and Mobility Cluster of Aragón (CAAR), David Romeral.
After a brief tour of the plant to see the facilities and see the evolution of the pieces that have marked the history of Zanini in Épila, The delegation has moved to the Palacio del Conde de Aranda in the Zaragoza town, where tribute has been paid to the workers who have completed 25 years in the company.
The gratitude has been extended to the entire staff for the commitment they show every day to the company and that has allowed us to achieve the manufacturing of the 400 millionth piece, shown by the director of the plant, Enrique Albalate, during his speech, in which he toured the main milestones of the Epilense factory.
Next, Torras highlighted the importance for Zanini of belonging to the Aragon automotive ecosystem and the role it will play in the future of the sector, given the challenges of new mobility. “When, 25 years ago, we came to Épila to do the prospecting to build the plant, we did not hesitate for a second because of the facilities offered to us by the Government of Aragon”he has revealed.
In his opinion, the key to the success of the Zaragoza plant, the second with the highest turnover in the group, is “the commitment of the human team and having known how to reinvent itself to find the appropriate format for our product and remain competitive, thanks to high technology and specialization executed in an excellent manner.
Finally, Mar Paños has congratulated all Zanini workers and has shown the “complete predisposition” of the regional Executive to collaborate in any project of the company and of the automobile industry in general, “a very important sector that, among other things, establishes territory and where there is no small investment.”
Zanini began its activity in Épila by delivering its first hubcap to Opel Spain, in Figueruelas, in 1999, thus locating production near a new customer for the company.
The plant has evolved to become a multi-client plant, consolidating the manufacturing of wheel trims, concentrating production of the group’s hubcaps in a single factory at European level and complementing its offer with the introduction of products linked to the electric vehicle, such as inserts. Currently, it delivers around 600 different references to more than 150 different destinations.
Its main clients are Renault Group, Stellantis, Volkswagen Group, Volvo, Jaguar Land Rover and Ford.although he also works for BMW, Toyota and Hyundai. Starting in 2025, it will expand this roster, to which it will add new global OEMs.
The Épila plant has 7,600 square meters of production space, on a plot of 14,300, and manufactures about 125,000 pieces per day between the Injection (hubcaps) and Finishing (hubcaps, hubcaps and inserts) sections.
The Injection line is equipped with 16 machines of between 130 and 900 tons, in addition to various assembly cells for aluminum components into injected parts (gluing and overmolding). Regarding the Finishes section, has a painting facility; various aluminum component assembly cells or chrome in painted parts, to which new units will be added soon; and a pad printing cell for painted pieces.
