Italian ex-Formula 1 driver Alex Zanadri has returned home to follow up his recovery process, a year and a half after the horrific accident he suffered on his handbike in June 2020, his wife Daniela Zanadri announced.
“A year and a half after this accident that required multiple head surgeries, Alex was able to leave the hospital a few weeks ago and is now back with us, at home,” he said.
And she continued: “After such a long stay in the hospital, it is important for him to return to his family environment, given the existing situation due to Covid, Alex has only seen people wearing masks and protective equipment around him for a year and a half,” considering that his return to his home and his family. It will give him extra strength.”
“The long-term rehabilitation process continues, with continuous progress, of course, there are setbacks and sometimes taking two steps back to be able to take a step forward, but Alex proves that he is a real fighter,” she revealed, speaking of a lot of progress in terms of his physical condition.
The 55-year-old Italian suffered serious head injuries when he lost control of his handbike during a road race in Tuscany and crashed into an oncoming truck on June 19, 2020.
