The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, was surprised to be included in the sanctions lists as a journalist and publicist. She announced this on Saturday, March 19, in the Telegram channel.
The diplomat called it “a special kind of perversion.” According to her, journalists are usually called propagandists if they want to offend.
“But for a civil servant to be punished for being a publicist, and, apparently, to be more insulting, to be called a journalist, I don’t remember this in history,” Zakharova wrote.
On the eve of the Japanese authorities announced the introduction of new sanctions against individuals and companies from Russia. It was noted that they also affect the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
Earlier, on March 15, the UK expanded another package of sanctions against Russia.
As reported by the British government, personal sanctions have been imposed against Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Presidential Special Envoy for Environmental Protection activity, ecology and transport of Sergey Ivanov and others.
Sanctions against Russia were imposed by a number of Western countries after the President of the Russian Federation announced on February 24 the launch of an operation to protect civilians in the Donbass. A few days earlier, the situation in the region escalated due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics announced the evacuation of residents to Russian territory, and also turned to Moscow for help. On February 21, Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DNR and LNR.
