The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced the threat of Western sanctions, for which, according to her, no reason is needed. She spoke about it on Saturday, February 12, on the air YouTube-channel “Soloviev LIVE”.
“The conclusion is obvious, the West does not need any reality to impose sanctions, it only needs information and political cover. Now we see its massive character, the threat of sanctions,” she said.
According to her, Russia has been living in the phase of “active sanctions” for ten years, and before that there were sanctions indirectly hidden “in the form of lists, threats of stop lists and targeted arrests.” Zakharova added that no intelligence data from the Western community and alleged facts pointing to crimes committed by Russia have ever been confirmed. At the same time, sanctions were introduced, the representative of the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
Earlier, the European Union revealed the details of new sanctions against Russia. The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said the organization has made progress on this issue. He added that Europe is discussing export control measures with a long-term effect.
