Over the years, many video game events have been subject to leak. The sources are varied, but in some situations the information came from YouTube, probably also because some employee exploited their position to access the backend of the platform and steal information. Now, YouTube would begin an internal investigation looking for those employees who broke their contract.
The information was shared by Tom Hendersona well-known leaker, who points out that obviously YouTube won’t talk about the matter publicly, so the only way to know what will happen will be through leaks… and it’s quite ironic.
Tom Henderson’s explanation
The first details were shared by Henderson via Twitter, as you can see below. The leaker states that there have already been two investigations, but that we should expect a third in the short term, following the State of Play and the Summer Game Fest.
Henderson to be precise wrote: “From what I can gather, YouTube has investigated employees who violated their contractual agreements on two separate occasions in the last 18 months due to employee access to content on the backend. After the day of today (and presumably the SGF), we will soon see one third investigation.”
Henderson’s reference is to the leak of State of Play contents, whose games we had discovered through information circulating starting from YouTube. We’ll see if the platform’s investigations will be enough to prevent something similar from happening again: publishers and developers would certainly prefer that it doesn’t happen again.
Of course, sometimes leaks are the fault of the video game companies themselves, as happened with Destiny 2 The Ultimate Form, to which fans had early access thanks to PlayStation.
