Double mourning in the Modican area: the mother can’t handle the news of the death of her 48-year-old daughter. Funerals celebrated together
Modica is surrounded by deep and unbearable pain. Mother and daughter they died within an hour of each other, leaving relatives and friends in an abyss of despair. Alessandra Civello, 48, and her mother Anna Gugliotta, 69, left this world together.
Alexandramother of two children, had been fighting with all her strength for months against a cruel and incurable disease. Despite the courage and support of the family, the disease got the better of Alessandra, who died at home. Just when the family was facing this immense pain, the tragedy took on an even darker and unimaginable profile.
Shortly after learning of his daughter’s death, Anna GugliottaAlessandra’s mother, suddenly felt ill. The devastating pain of losing her daughter was too much to bear. The woman collapsed to the ground, struck by an illness, in front of the incredulous eyes of the relatives gathered to mourn the loss of Alessandra. Despite immediate help, there was nothing that could be done for Anna. About an hour later the daughter died as if their indissoluble bond had united them even in the tragic moment of farewell.
Those who knew them speak of a deep and unparalleled relationship between mother and daughter, made of mutual love and dedication. Anna was deeply affected by the last months spent close to her seriously ill daughter. He had dedicated all his energy to being at Alessandra’s side in this hopeless battle. The suffering and torment accumulated during those months were perhaps too much for the 69-year-old’s heart.
The bond between Anna and Alessandra will also be honored on their last trip. The relatives decided to organize a single funeral for mother and daughter. The two coffins will be placed side by side in front of the altar of the Church of San Luca in Modica on Tuesday 8 October. After the funeral, the bodies will be transferred together with the Misterbianco Crematorium Templewhere they will rest forever close together, just as they lived. On the funeral posters we read:
“Your dear memory will live eternally in the souls of those who knew you and loved you”.
Two broken lives, united by a love that not even death could separate. The story of this mother and her daughter is incredibly reminiscent of the news episode that occurred a few days ago. Michaela DePrince, a world-famous dancer, and her adoptive mother, Elaine DePrince, passed away within 24 hours. Michaela on September 11th, followed by Elaine, died the next day during routine surgery. However, Elaine did not know that she had lost her daughter before the operation.
