Couple wants to climb 4,000 meter high mountain: “I dreamed of this way of living”
They announced their plan on Instagram. After not quite reaching the summit of Mount Shasta a few days earlier due to the weather, the couple now wanted to climb the 4,421 meter high Mount Whitney. “If I could go back in time and show my 12-year-old self what my life is like now, it would make me so proud,” the 28-year-old wrote in a post. “I dreamed of this way of living for 15 years. I’ve finally surrounded myself with people who I can share these types of experiences with and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
However, the young couple did not return to their base camp at Upper Boy Scout Lake on Tuesday (May 7), the reported Inyo County Sheriff’s Office at Facebook with. They originally wanted to climb to a flat spot (The Notch), which is often used as a rest area. From there the two wanted to take their snowboard back down to the valley. A possible descent can take place over an almost vertical section.
Couple dies while hiking in the USA: police identify bodies
A friend of the couple was also there, but he reported that he was separated from the two on an extremely steep and icy part of the mountain Daily Mail. The hiker friend then waited at the notch for over an hour. However, the cold wind eventually forced him to descend back into the valley. There he reported the couple missing that evening.
A large search operation then began, including the use of a helicopter. After eleven hours, the search teams finally discovered two bodies at an altitude of 1,200 meters on the north side of the mountain. A few days later there was sad certainty. Authorities identified the two hikers on Thursday (May 9).
The place where the dead were found was said to be almost 1000 meters below the Notch. It is not known whether the couple dared to descend the almost vertical section with their snowboard and died as a result. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. Just recently, a holidaymaker from Bavaria died on a notorious hiking trail in South Tyrol. Just a few days earlier, a hiker fell to his death in Tyrol. (cheese)
