Big news in the world of colorful cars. The man behind one of the best BMW art cars ever (the 2010 M3 GT2 that took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans) has pulled out his paintbrushes again to create this striking BMW 8 Series. BMW will produce 99 copies of this special car in collaboration with artist Jeff Koons.
Bold design, isn’t it? ‘It is sporty and flashy as well as minimalist and conceptual’, says Koons. “The lines expand as they travel from the hood to the trunk, creating a sense of forward motion, just like the “POP!” and the design elements of propelling vapors to do that.’
The interior of the Jeff Koons BMW artcar is just as colorful
We count a total of eleven colors on the outside alone. Inside, of course, the theme continues with “the colors of superheroes from the comic book universe.” And which is unusual for an art car: BMW is just taking this M850i-based ‘8 x Jeff Koons’ into production.
Yes, 99 units are being built to actually sell. Not a word has been said about the price, but apparently every car needs 200 hours of brushwork. They also all bear Koons’ signature on the cup holders. Of course there is a certificate to show that you did not paint it yourself in the garage. Don’t expect these special BMWs to be very cheap.
