Sometime this year you can spot the first Ford Kuga and BMW X1 in Dutch police colors. There will also be an electric model, but the police have yet to decide which one this will be. In Saudi Arabia the police have gone a step further. The first electric police car was shown there yesterday in the form of the Lucid Air. And this Lucid is certainly not the last Air in the Middle East.
Many of the Saudi police's official cars will soon be from Lucid. The local government there has already agreed with the American brand to do it no fewer than 50,000 electric cars in the next 10 years from Lucid, with an option to an additional 50,000 to buy. For this purpose, Saudi Arabia will transfer the reasonable sum of 10 billion dollars, which is approximately 9.3 billion euros.
Saudi Arabia's interest in Lucid
It is not surprising that Saudi Arabia chooses Lucid cars. The government owns 60 percent of Lucid's shares, so they undoubtedly want to give their investment a helping hand. There will be many more of the police car as you see it here. To show the show of power of the local authorities, the government makes a video in which the Lucid meets his colleagues.
The light box on top of the Air also serves as a house for a drone. At the push of a button, the roof opens and the drone can take off. We are curious what that box does with the large range of the Air, in any case it will not work miracles. Nowadays they like to hide the flashing lights behind the windows so as not to affect the range.
Judging by the rims, the police car is a Lucid Air Pure. This is the entry-level car that has 487 hp, goes from 0 to 100 km/h in four seconds and can travel 725 kilometers on a full battery. It will last for a while during a pursuit, although the range naturally decreases rapidly at high speeds. In the Netherlands you pay at least 115,000 euros for this Air.
