A young woman lost her life in an unfortunate accident while traveling in Gagry, Georgia. The tourist, one Russian influencer 39 years old known as Inessa Polenko, she was famous on social media for her content relating to travel and beauty treatments.

While he was in a panoramic point to capture the breathtaking view of the Black Sea with a selfie, Inessa ignored the warnings and passed a security barrier to reach a platform closed to visitors.

While trying to take a photo with a man in that breathtaking place, she lost her balance and fell disastrously from the structure, very high above the beach. In the video you can clearly see the frightening height from which she fell.

A video of the accident, which went viral, shows the desperate rush of the man who was with her to try to save her, but unfortunately without success. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors fought to save her life, but she died the same day from her serious injuries.

The tragedy has inevitably brought the issue of safety in tourist spots back to the fore, especially in particularly high and dangerous ones. It's not the first accident which occurs at the Gagry viewpoint. In fact, 15 years ago, another woman risked falling into the void. Maybe then there wasn't the “frenzy” of content to post on the web.

Local authorities have said the structure, which dates back to Soviet times, is now too dangerous and should be demolished. However, the location continues to attract tourists seeking extreme photos, often ignoring safety precautions.

The Inessa Polenko incident is yet another sad example of the “silent selfie massacre”, as Giovanni D'Agata, president of the “Rights Desk”, defined it. Several global health organizations have already recommended the establishment of “no selfie zones” at critical points to prevent such disasters. Unfortunately, many continue to put their lives at risk for that perfect shot, with often fatal consequences.
