Believe it or not, it’s been seven years since the release of Yooka-Laylee. While the series hasn’t grown much since then, as we’ve only seen one sequel, Playtonic Games, the developers, have spent the last few years working on a remastering of the 3D platformer, which is positioned to be the definitive version of this classic.
Through a trailer it has been revealed Yooka-Replaylee, an improved version of the 2017 game, handled by “the same key creative talent” behind the original installment. This remastering has revised art direction and animations, as well as “improved performance and resolution.”
Along with this, the controls and the camera, two of the most criticized aspects of the original release, have received a series of improvements that, we hope, solve the problems we saw in 2017. As if that were not enough, coins have been added, something that not only works as a new collectible, but can also be used in Vendi, the smart vending machine.
Existing challenges in the game have also been improved and more have been added. The developers have added a new map and challenge tracker to help players better discover where they are, and what they have left to do. Last but not least, the game’s original music by Grant Kirkhope, renowned for his work on Banjo-Kazooie, and David Wise, acclaimed for the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack, is back, but in orchestra form this time.
Unfortunately, there is no release date for Yooka-Replaylee at the moment. Fortunately, On June 11, a presentation will take place on the official Playtonic Games channel on YouTube, where they will answer questions from the general public. Author’s Note:
This is a strange thing, but it is a surprise that is positive. We may not remember it, but Yooka-Laylee was a great game at the time, it marked the return of 3D platformers in a way we haven’t seen in a long time, and the remaster has the potential to do so once again.
