The second vice president of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, made it clear this Tuesday to the CEOE that she either supports the reduction of working hours to 37.5 hours per week or sends this reform to Congress for approval. although it does not have the endorsement of businessmen.
«The work of the social dialogue table, with the departure for the Congress of Deputies, is already at this moment, in the exit lane. That is to say, if there is an agreement, I am willing to continue working on whatever is necessary, as we always do, but it is in the process of leaving for the Congress of Deputies,” she stressed.
Díaz, in statements to TVE collected by Europa Press, recalled that a latest proposal to employers and unions to help small businesses, “with less than five workers”, to transition the legal working day from the current 40 hours per week to 37.5 hours.
«Until now it is the first time at the social dialogue table that the Spanish employers’ association does not respond to anything. Now it is time to move forward and once the employers decide, we will now reach the final process of the social dialogue table,” stated the vice president.
Díaz has reiterated that the direct aid that has been proposed to social agents to help SMEs with the reduction of working hours will be granted as long as the CEOE joins the agreement. “The diatribe of the Spanish employers’ association is whether they want to represent the businessmen and women of our country or they want to do other things that seem to have more to do with politics and not with social dialogue, nor with the defense of companies,” has stressed.
The minister recalled that The reduction in working hours has been negotiated for monthsfirst bilaterally (between unions and employers) and then with the Government and that, being already in the final stretch of the year, now the Government has to “govern for the citizens and to improve” Spain by implementing this measure.
In any case, Díaz was convinced that there is room for agreement with social agents.
The budget negotiation, “stuck”
In another order of things, asked about the negotiation of the General State Budgets (PGE) for 2025, Díaz has assured that the negotiations with the PSOE are “stalled.”
“We are one enormous distanceespecially in matters of taxation. “We need public income to continue maintaining the public policies that the Government of Spain is developing,” he pointed out.
In this sense, Díaz recalled that Sumar’s tax proposal involves maintaining taxes on banks and electricity companies and complying with the constitutional mandate that those who have the most contribute more.
But, in addition, the vice president has defended that healthcare and private education should be subject to VAT. “Our proposal is clear, we must improve tax justice in Spain, we have to align capital income with labor income,” he stressed.
