The second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, closed this Saturday together with the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and the Vice President and Minister of Equality and Equity of Colombia, Francia Márquez, her first official trip to the Latin American country.
Specifically, Díaz has closed with Petro the international meeting Economies for Life (Ecoovida), held in Caliwhere he has defended alternative models of production and generation of wealth, sustainable models compatible with the basic needs of humanity that make up the Social Economy.
During the meeting, according to the vice president’s department in a statement, Díaz highlighted that the social economy “establishes equality within labor, social and economic relations”while praising the flexibility of the entities that make it up, since, in his opinion, they offer greater job stability, which also results in a smaller wage gap.
Likewise, the Spanish vice president has stressed that The social economy “is an alternative for the present and future to global disorderand allows the construction of more horizontal relations between Europe and Latin America, based on labor rights and social justice.” Díaz has also indicated that he considers it appropriate to focus on a more humane economy for people, which manages to go “beyond the cold macroeconomic indicators.”
Meeting with Francia Márquez
After meeting with Petro, Díaz met with the vice president and Minister of Equality and Equity, Francia Márquez, with whom has addressed bilateral relations and cooperation between Spain and Colombia and, in particular, in the socio-labor area.
The Ministry of Labor assures that the department headed by Márquez has shown interest in the measures implemented in Spain to reduce the wage gapl, such as the increase in the Interprofessional Minimum Wage, as well as the protection of domestic employees.
With this meeting, a official trip that started on Thursday with the participation of the vice president in the XXII Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor of the Organization of American States (OAS). He has also interviewed his counterpart Gloria Ramírez and was received by the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro.
