President Andrés Manuel López Obrador He stated this Tuesday that Mexico will participate in the PISA 2025 test applied by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and reiterated criticism of the independent report on deaths from covid in Mexico.
PISA is the Program for International Student Assessment of the OECD whose objective is to measure the ability of 15-year-old students to use their knowledge and skills in reading, mathematics and science to face real-life challenges.
“Yes, we participated, without any problem,” the president stressed in his morning press conference at the National Palace about the PISA test, after it emerged within days that Mexico was withdrawing.
“Everything that has to do with education is supported, we are seeing that they say that we are not going to participate, but yes, I don’t know what it consists of, but we do accept it, and we are open to all evaluations.”
Covid 19
In the same sense, López Obrador spoke of the study carried out by a Independent Commission of Investigation on the Covid-19 Pandemic in Mexico.
“We are even open to the studies they did on the management of the pandemic that, by pure chance, were made known now that there are elections, accusing us of mishandling everything related to the pandemic,” said the chief executive.
“I’m going to clarify, because if I give the floor to Ruy (López Ridaura, Undersecretary of Health) he will begin to substantiate it technically, scientifically, because he is an academic.”
López Obrador showed an interview with Dr. Antonio Lazcano, a member of the independent commission, who commented that the way to hold people responsible for the excess deaths from Covid is to “go to the polls” on June 2.
He also showed a fragment of a radio interview in which lawyer Javier Coello calls to “go out and vote (…) to change this lie that is the fourth transformation”, regarding the same report.
“It is very simple to explain, I am going to give you two opinions on this, from two of our adversaries, from those who promoted this strategy, this supposed study, people from (José) Narro and from all those who, unfortunately, dominate in the UNAM, our alma mater,” the President previously stated.
And then he attacked the National Autonomous University of Mexico and other research and academic institutions.
“I don’t know how it fell so low, but well, it’s part of the same thing, there were many years of neoliberal policy, 36 years, and they served themselves with the big spoon, they were involved in all the businesses, they had Conacyt to its disposal and the public universities and academic centers, even the National College,” he denounced.
