No penalty for Lewis Hamilton, at least for the case concerning the alleged failure to comply with the double yellow flag during FP3. The race marshals, through an official statement, have sanctioned the ‘No further action’ against the reigning world champion, which in this case also avoids the risk of a reprimand, which would have been the second for him this season. The explanation provided by the stewards regarding the episode is quite clear and highlights a rather curious episode, especially given the level of competition and the stakes. In fact, the panels with the yellow flags would have been activated “accidentally”.
“The commissioners listened to the driver of car 44 (Lewis Hamilton) – reads the press release issued by the FIA - the representative of the team and examined the video and the work of the commissioners. The clerk of the course told the marshals that the double yellow flag warning was activated on light panel number 6 accidentally, for less than 1 second. As shown in the video of the car 44 (which will be made public following this decision) it is clearly seen that there was no yellow flag displayed. No yellow lights were shown to the pilot and the yellow warning light was not visible on the pilot’s steering wheel. Unlike other incidents this year, there was no yellow flag or yellow light displayed to the rider so there was no violation of the regulation ”.
