The Chinese market must be kept in sight, and this has been known for some time. But with the advent of electric cars now we can no longer look at the general result alone. There are brands with tremendous long-term potential for global reach that are racking up sales after sales with insane growth rates.
One of these cases concerns the electrical brand XPeng, based in Guangzhou. During the month of October XPeng delivered 10,138 vehicles, despite the semiconductor crisis, growing by 233% compared to the same period in 2020; among these cars, 6,044 concerned the P7 model. Since the beginning of the year, 66,542 cars have been delivered to customers, + 289% compared to 2020. It also seems that the P5 model, launched last September, has a good order backlog although sales have stopped for now. only at 437 units.
At the end of the past month, XPeng has exceeded 100,000 deliveries in its history, following in this sense the same growth of NIO in the electricity business, albeit with a different approach towards customers considering that NIO is also very active in battery swapping. XPeng, on the other hand, is investing in a supercharging charging network in cities and on Chinese highways, with coverage of at least 221 major urban centers.
XPeng recently unveiled new features for its XPILOT driver assistance software. Launched in early 2021, the Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP) function for motorways within the system has already served customers for 11.98 million kilometers. In the first half of 2022 the brand will launch XPILOT 3.5, extending the driver assistance system also in urban areas. “Our mission is to progressively move from advanced assistance to driving to fully autonomous driving, with a clear roadmap to connect all scenarios. Our closed-loop data operation, rapid software iteration and mass production capability, all created in-house, place us in a leadership position to significantly improve security.“, Said Dr. Xinzhou Wu, vice president of XPeng self-driving department.
XPILOT 3.5 incorporates radar sensors LiDAR and millimeter waves. Its visual perception network has been upgraded from 2D to 3D sensing, with multiple object recognition, classification and positioning. The 4.0 system is already in the studio with expected launch in the year 2023, thanks to a complete hardware update.
