Have you ever wanted to have a conversation with a world leader? Now you can do it with a chatbot based on the thoughts of Xi Jinping. Yes, you understood correctly. There China has developed a chatbot that uses the political thought of Xi Jinping as the basis for his responses.
This new chatbot was created using more than a dozen booksgovernment documents, regulations and state media reports, all attributed to Xi Jinping. The developers used these official sources to train the AI, ensuring that the chatbot can respond in line with Xi’s political philosophy, known as “Xi Jinping’s Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”.
One document, reviewed by the Financial Times, used to train the chatbot, contains over 86,000 mentions of Xi Jinping. The language of the document encourages citizens to maintain close alignment with the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and with Xi Jinping.
Xi Jinping: Where the chatbot is used
Currently, the chatbots it is not yet available to the general public. It is used in a research center under the supervision of the Administration of Cyberspace from the China (CAC). However, there are plans for wider future distribution. The chatbot can answer questions, create reports, summarize information, and translate between Chinese and English.
This initiative is part of extensive efforts by Chinese officials to promote Xi’s philosophies and his authoritarian state. In China, Xi’s works are central to the country’s book fairs, and state media posts often feature him. THE children ten-year-olds have to study his political philosophy, so the chatbot could also be useful in the field educational.
Major Western AI models are not available in China. Chinese authorities require AI providers generative “embody core socialist values” and that the output does not contain content that subverts state power. As a result, Chinese chatbots such as those from Baidu and Alibaba must strictly control the content generated regarding Xi or other sensitive topics.
This presents a significant challenge, as many models are trained with English data, introducing potentially responses that may violate country regulations.
