XDefiant is about to arrive and the developers were keen to point out that the game does not contain pay-to-win mechanicsnaturally linked to microtransactions. For this reason they wanted to explain how monetization works, reassuring interested players.
XDefiant will be released on May 21st on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, after years of waiting and postponements, as the launch trailer reminded us. This is one arena shooter with factions and characters inspired by Ubisoft’s most famous intellectual properties. There will be a lot of unlockable content right from the start, including Battle Passes and additional cosmetic items. But how will they work?
Players fear that there are pay-to-win microtransactions, i.e. capable of giving advantages, more or less marked, to those who spend money in game.
Purchasable and unlockable items
The developers then explained in a detailed post, published on the official XDefiant websitewhich will not be the case, i.e. that any purchasable content that has any influence on the gameplaywill also be acquireable through challenges.
Furthermore, there is a desire to reward players’ commitment to the time spent in the game by unlocking new content after every game.
So there will be: free rewards of Battle Passdaily and weekly in-game challenges, Ubisoft Connect challenges, Weapon Mastery (with regular updates), rewards for participating in the community (Twitch Drops, giveaways and in-game events).
There will also be extra content that can be purchased, such asPremium option for the Battle Pass, character and weapon cosmetics, faction content, player card backgrounds and animations, and more. They will all be cosmetic and will not affect systems. In fact the basic game will remain the same for everyone. Of course, the development team is open to suggestions from the community to improve XDefiant and resolve more problematic situations that may arise.
