PlayStation ahead of Xbox.
Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, spoke in an interview with Kinda Funny of the efforts Microsoft is making to compete with Sony in terms of first-party games. In the interview Booty admitted that Xbox “hasn’t been at the forefront” of large proprietary games, praising Sony for what it has been able to do, among other things.
“Hats off to Sony, their studio system and the leaders, everything is great – you can’t argue with the quality and games they have produced and are working on now. Congratulations and hats off to them“, he said. “I think they are able to create a certain type of game that generates anticipation and that becomes a fundamental pillar. I think these kinds of games are important. And of course, it was something we didn’t do, we weren’t on the front line“.
However, Booty has stated that Microsoft will not back down and wants to create types of games that could be hugely successful just like Sony: “I don’t necessarily want to go into ‘What’s our Uncharted?’ ‘What is our Horizon: Zero Dawn?’ Because I don’t think this is of any use to anyone“Booty said.”What are those games that have universal themes, that have a big world that people want to get lost in, that have really well crafted characters and really high production values? This is absolutely what we want to pursue“.
In a recent interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer also spoke about the future of the company, stating that he is still looking for new acquisitions.
