The Microsoft division shows growth despite an industry that stabilizes after the pandemic.
Microsoft has published this morning the financial results for the fourth quarter of your fiscal year, from April to June 2021. A period with very positive figures for the company led by Satya Nadella, exceeding analysts’ expectations and with good growth in video games, despite calming down that “boom” caused by the pandemic. And, while companies like Ubisoft have had lower results than a year ago in this specific quarter, the Xbox figures continue to rise thanks to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Thanks mainly to them and not to content sales, but let’s not get ahead of events. First of all Xbox division revenue has grown by 11% (+357 million dollars) compared to a year ago. This growth has occurred thanks to the strong demand for the new generation consoles, Xbox Series X and S, which cause that the hardware revenue increase by 172%. As usual, Microsoft has not released the number of consoles sold to date.
However, in the call with the shareholders, the CEO Satya nadella stated that Xbox Series X | S continue to be the fastest-selling Xbox consoles ever of the brand, with more units sold in this first half year than any other Xbox before. Beyond hardware, revenue from content and services Xbox have fallen into a -4% every year.
Xbox Game Pass revenue grows this quarterA fact that has many nuances: the income of Xbox Game Pass and first party games have both grown, says Microsoft, but third-party game sales are down compared to a year ago, when the pandemic it had skyrocketed the income of the sector. In other words, the decrease is only due to the fact that the data for the previous year was higher than usual, given the exceptional situation.
We remind you that Xbox Game Pass currently offers your first month for just 1 euro for new subscribers, so you can try games like a Microsoft Flight Simulator just released on consoles. Beyond the data, Satya Nadella has promised shareholders that “let’s go with everything” in video games, and has highlighted the rapid Game Pass growth and from the xCloud cloud game. For now we do not have new subscription figures, but the service grows in users and also in titles, with these 12 new games to close July.
