Microsoft has stopped producing all consoles belonging to the line Xbox One. The company originally stopped production of the Xbox One X And Xbox One S prior to the launch of the Xbox Series X, so it quietly stopped production of the Xbox One line at the end of 2020, thus leaving retailers to run out of remaining stock.
In this sense Cindy Walker, senior director of product marketing belonging to the Xbox console lines, in an interview with colleagues of The Verge stated the following:
To focus on Xbox Series X / S production, we have discontinued production of all Xbox One consoles towards the end of 2020.
Microsoft’s confirmation comes just as a recent report from Bloomberg suggested that Sony planned to cease production of the PlayStation 4 at the end of 2021, but that the company later decided to produce approx a million new consoles belonging to the last generation in 2022.
Sony has confirmed that the production of PlayStation 4 It is still in progress, while in parallel there are still availability problems for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
However, Microsoft seems to be able to meet the demand with the Xbox Series S, the version of the Series line without the optical reader and therefore intended for digital use of the titles only. It is no coincidence that the aforementioned consul, at the publication of this article, is available on Amazon.
Immediately following the launch of the Xbox Series X / S in 2020, Xbox boss Phil Spencer had stated that the company had built more Xbox Series X consoles than the Series S, but that ultimately the Series S lower price tohe should have prevailed. So why does the digital version not suffer from availability problems? In this regard Spencer had stated the following:
We can build more S-Series chips in the same amount of time we make X-Series chips.
This is one of the main reasons the Xbox Series S stock is definitely more stable compared to the two versions of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
